StudyBuddy ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our web application and Android app (collectively, the "Service").

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly:

  • Account information: name, email address, and password when you create an account.
  • Study materials: notes, PDFs, and text content you upload to the platform.
  • Generated content: flashcards, quizzes, summaries, and study plans created from your materials.
  • Usage data: study progress, quiz scores, study streaks, and feature usage.
  • Payment information: processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve the StudyBuddy Service.
  • To generate AI-powered summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and study plans from your uploaded materials.
  • To track your study progress and provide analytics.
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • To send essential service communications (e.g., account verification, billing).

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which provides PostgreSQL databases with Row Level Security (RLS). Only you can access your own study materials and generated content. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and industry-standard security practices to protect data at rest.

5. AI Processing

When you use AI features (summaries, flashcards, quizzes, chat), your study material is sent to third-party AI providers for processing. This content is used solely to generate your study materials and is not used to train AI models. We use a provider-agnostic architecture and may route requests through different providers (such as Groq, HuggingFace, or XAI) depending on availability.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with: (a) service providers necessary to operate the platform (Supabase, Stripe, AI providers, Vercel), (b) advertising partners — Google AdMob for the mobile app and Google AdSense for the web app — to serve and measure ads, and (c) when required by law or legal process.

7. Advertising

StudyBuddy displays advertisements on both the web app (via Google AdSense) and the mobile app (via Google AdMob). These services may collect and use certain data to serve personalized or non-personalized ads, including:

  • Browser cookies and web beacons (web app — Google AdSense)
  • Device identifiers such as advertising ID (mobile app — Google AdMob)
  • IP address and approximate location
  • Pages visited and content viewed on this site
  • Device type, operating system, and screen size

Google uses the data collected to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites. You may opt out of personalized advertising via Google’s Ad Settings or aboutads.info. 8. Data Retention & Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. When you delete your account, all your data — including uploaded materials, generated content, and study progress — will be permanently deleted from our systems.

9. Cookies & Tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. Our advertising partners also set cookies:

  • Google AdSense (web) — sets cookies to measure ad performance and serve relevant ads based on your browsing activity.
  • Google AdMob (mobile app) — uses device identifiers to serve and measure ads.

You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings or opt out of personalized ads at Google’s Ad Settings.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You can manage your data through the Settings page in your account, or contact us for assistance.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date.

12. Children's Privacy

StudyBuddy is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country) without appropriate parental or school authorization. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child in violation of applicable law, we will take steps to delete it.
